At the 15th anniversary celebration of the Community Foundation for the Land of Lincoln, Harvey B. Stephens and Judy Stephens were recognized for their long-time and continuing support of the community as the first recipients of the Stephens Philanthropy Award. This Award recognizes those who have an extraordinary commitment to philanthropy and community service. The Foundation invests and administers funds from a wide range of supporters to aid many diverse community groups. Starting in 2002, the Stephens guided the transformation of an existing trust with approximately $800,000 in assets into today’s growing public foundation with over $29,000,000 in assets. CEO John Stremsterfer presented the award before a crowd of 350 and said, “Their hearts are as big as their minds and vice-versa.” During their acceptance speeches Judy stated, “You aren’t a volunteer in the community because you expect something back. You get something back for what you do and the pleasure that you gain in doing it.” Harvey B. Stephens joined Brown, Hay & Stephens, LLP, in 1960 and continues his practice with the firm as a Senior Counselor.
