Charles Y. Davis

Managing Partner

Chuck Davis provides counsel to existing and emerging businesses and associations, primarily on corporate, commercial, and energy matters. He represents privately and publicly owned corporations and financial institutions. Particularly, Chuck has represented entrepreneurs, public utilities, wholesale pharmaceutical companies, healthcare institutions, distributing companies, risk pools, agribusinesses, and governmental entities.

On transactional matters, Chuck has advised clients on governance issues, stock and asset sales and acquisitions, mergers, commercial loans, workouts, low income housing tax credit transactions, self-insurance agreements, licensing matters, and a variety of business contractual issues. Chuck has also represented clients in contested business and commercial litigation before Illinois circuit, appellate, and federal courts, and before the federal courts of New York, California, and Florida.

With respect to his energy practice, Chuck has advised and represented agricultural interests, public utilities, private companies, and associations in matters before the Illinois Commerce Commission, Illinois appellate courts, and the Illinois Supreme Court. He has represented his clients in a variety of matters, including electric transmission proceedings, contested citation proceedings, customer complaints, service area agreements, asset sales, rulemakings, certificate proceedings, and legislation. Further, Chuck has also represented energy clients with environmental, oil and gas matters.

While at Brown, Hay + Stephens, Chuck has served his community and profession. He has served on numerous charitable and civic boards. In April 2012, Chuck was elected to the 27-member Board of Governors that oversees the operations and management of the Illinois State Bar Association, and in 2018 he was named to the “Forty Illinois Attorneys Under 40 to Watch” for 2018 by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin and its companion, Chicago Lawyer Magazine. Prior to his legal career, Chuck worked and interned in numerous political campaigns and in the United States Senate in Washington, DC.
